Vintage Seymour Duncan Distortion DD (SH-6) Humbucker Pickup from the early 1980's
This pickup was removed from a 1982 Gibson Les Paul Custom and sounds fantastic!
Age and model: This sticker says DD and the resistance measures 16.2k, so we know it is a Duncan Distortion (SH-6) model, which was first introduced in 1980. Based on the style of back plate with no logo, we know it's was made between 1980-1983. That it was in a 1982 Gibson Les Paul Custom makes perfect sense.
Hand Wound by Seymour Duncan: In the early 1980's, Duncan pickups were marked with stickers that had three letters. The first two indicated the model and the third was the initial of the winder. This sticker does not have the third letter, but in this era, pickups that did not have a third letter indicated they were wound by Seymour Duncan himself. This may be one of the earliest of the Duncan Distortions. That's pretty cool!
Description: Introduced in 1980, the SH-6 was Seymour Duncan's original high-output passive humbucker. The "DD" Duncan Distortion delivers tight and mean lows with searing top end—ideal for a wide variety of styles. It uses a massive ceramic magnet and hot coil windings to deliver powerful but balanced rock and metal tones with rich upper-midrange harmonic content. Lows strings are tight and mean while the high strings scream with harmonics, making it a go-to pickup for hard-hitting crunch rhythms and blazing lead tones.
Construction: Hand-wound in Santa Barbara, CA, the Distortion uses a large ceramic bar magnet, nickel-silver bottom plate, 4-conductor lead wire for multiple wiring options, and is vacuum wax potted for squeal-free performance.
Condition: Very good condition overall. Has a nice aged look (it's over 40 years old).
