Aska Team Build Series Sakura Model for Spring 2026

The Spring 2026 Aska Team Build Series Sakura model takes inspiration from Japan’s national bird, the Green Pheasant, known as Nihon Kiji.

By combining the pheasant with the timeless imagery of cherry blossoms, this model tells a new story of spring in Japan.

The top is made of carefully selected Sitka spruce, while the sides and back are crafted from Japanese mountain cherry, resulting in an all-solid body.

The back features a three-piece design with maple, a traditional Japanese wood, running through the center.

The finish blends a soft cherry blossom pink with a fresh, spring green, highlighting the grain of the wood and evoking the feeling of new growth.

The subtle layering of two colors requires delicate precision, and the overlapping areas create nuanced shades, showcasing the skill of Headway’s experienced finishers who have painted countless Sakura models.

As a Japanese manufacturer, Headway emphasizes creating guitars that can only be made in Japan.

The use of domestic woods, known as “wazai,” is central to this philosophy, and the Green Pheasant design reflects Japan’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.

The headstock features the male pheasant in vibrant colors, expressed delicately with multiple materials.

This level of intricate craftsmanship is achieved only by the skilled artisans of the Aska Factory.

The fingerboard inlay depicts cherry blossoms alongside pheasant feathers.

Using natural shells and various woods, the design conveys the flowing branches, falling petals, and drifting feathers of the pheasant, creating a harmonious Japanese aesthetic.

The pickguard shows a pheasant family walking amid falling cherry blossoms.

The center of the back is inspired by a sumi-e ink scroll.

Rather than relying solely on paint, multiple techniques are combined, including inlay for the cherry blossoms, to create depth and dimension.

The Aska Factory seal is hand-stamped on each instrument, giving each guitar a subtle individuality and a sense of exclusivity.

The neck features the Extra Slim U shape, renowned for its exceptional playability.

Its slim profile and meticulously beveled edges create a grip that almost feels like the neck is molded to the hand.

High-strength carbon bars are added to the neck for further rigidity, improving stability, controlling unwanted flex, and allowing string vibrations to transmit smoothly to the top, enhancing high-frequency expression.

The bracing, which forms the core of the guitar’s sound, inherits a design developed by Yasuo Momose.

He studied the bracing of a vintage guitar built in 1934 and refined it into his own unique structure.

The X brace is semi forward shifted closer to the soundhole, producing strong bass response even on a new guitar and providing a rich, powerful tone.

The brace intersection is positioned about five millimeters closer to the bridge than a typical forward shifted design, ensuring top plate stability while maintaining excellent acoustic performance.
