Used Neck and Bridge Greco 1988 PAF Style Humbucker Pickups with Gold Covers and Mounting Screws

These were pulled from a 1988 Greco LS 120 CRS copy of a Gibson L5S. As far as I and the previous owner know they are original. The Bridge pickup was missing the gold cover so a new one was installed, but they don't match. There is probably some trick to doing that. It probably needs to be re-wax potted too as it seemed to squeal a little. The neck pickup has no issues in that regard. They both sounded great in the guitar but I opted for a matching set of Alnico 5 PAF style gold pups.

From the internet:

"In 1988, Greco guitars (Mint Collection era) typically featured PAF-style humbuckers produced by FujiGen, frequently designated as "DRY" or "Screamin' 1982" models. These pickups were designed to replicate vintage, low-output PAF tones, often featuring Alnico magnets and braided, two-conductor wiring. "

Key 1988 Greco Pickup Specifications (FujiGen/DRY Series):

  • Model/Type: Late 80s DRY (often found on GTZ-65, MTV-80) or "Screamin' 1982" (found on models like the 1988 Firebird).
  • Magnet Type: Alnico (often described as thicker than standard Alnico bar magnets).
  • Resistance (DC Output): Generally low to moderate output, typically ranging between 7.2kΩ and 8.0kΩ, though some can range higher.
  • Construction: Long-leg baseplate, wood spacers, braided shield lead wire.
  • Pole Spacing: 49mm.
  • Appearance: Often featured black solid covers with a "DRY" logo, or nickel/chrome covers.

Common 1988 Characteristics:

  • DRY Model: Found on higher-end 1987-1988 models, characterized by a smooth, vintage PAF tone.
  • "Screamin' 1982" Model: A common PAF-style pickup in late-80s Greco models.
  • Magnet Detail: These pickups are known for using Alnico magnets to provide a warmer, vintage tone, distinct from the higher-output ceramic magnets found in cheaper alternatives.

Interchangeability: They are often interchangeable with Gibson-style humbuckers, but note that 1980s FujiGen pickups were generally wired to a Fender-type phase, which may cause out-of-phase issues if mixed with certain Gibson pickups.
