The HammerOn instantaneous pitch-shifter pedal proves that DigiTech still stands at the forefront of the pitch-shifting pedal province, providing you with dual-footswitch control over instant and expressive pitch-jumping potential. This pedal boasts 27 total pitches to choose from, ranging from two octaves up all the way down to two sub octaves, with handy Pitch Select LEDs to provide a clear visual indication of the pedal’s status. Two footswitches provide a versatile approach to pitch shifting. The Pitch 1 switch acts as a dedicated hammer-on-style pitch shifter; in comparison, the Pitch 2 footswitch can be configured with a trio of unique modes: Hammer On, Impossible, and Sequence. What’s more, you get a DRY+ button to create harmonious intervals with your dry signal, a rhythmic Trill feature, and the ability to swap between Classic (the time-tested Whammy algorithm) and Chords mode (the algorithm from the modern Whammy DT). Whether you need to reach one last high note for a finger-bending chord shape or you’re craving a sea of wild and experimental cacophony, the DigiTech HammerOn will hammer your musical point home.
Three modes to explore
Inspired by the technique used by guitarists, bassists, and other stringed-instrument players, the DigiTech HammerOn aims to provide musicians with a pedal-style pitch-bending that naturally melds into your playing technique. As such, the first footswitch, Pitch 1, is dedicated to this function, momentarily raising or lowering your signal’s pitch when the button is depressed. However, the HammerOn’s Pitch 2 switch opens up an entirely new realm of inspiring and experimental options with its trio of modes:
- Hammer On: In this mode, the HammerOn’s second footswitch matches the operation of the first one, allowing you to perform a secondary momentary pitch modulation.
- Impossible: This mode is a variant of Hammer On mode, alternating between a duo of fully separate and selectable pitch-shift settings above or below your current chord or note.
- Sequence 2, 3, 5: our more adventurous guitarists find the HammerOn’s sequence mode to be arguably this pedal’s most inspiring feature. This mode offers a latching and instant pitch shift that runs through a set of user-definable pitches above or below your current note or chord. Moreover, this mode grants you options for 2-note sequencing, 3-note sequencing, and even 5-note sequencing for rhythmic and experimental pitch-bending potential — especially when you pair it with the pedal’s Trill mode!
