Trader-BOB's MUSIC offers a 1920's (?) Hughes 17 Fret "Irish" Tenor Banjo. Not a lot of Hughes info out there. Made near identical to Vega banjos of the same era. I say "Irish" because the Irish players prefer the 17 fret vs, the 19 fret tenor banjos. 11" calfskin head, 28 tension hooks, closed end tension nuts (Vega style).007" neck relief / bow, 140" string action height. Beautiful tiger maple neck. Ebony overlay on the headstock, front and back. Original friction tuners, work fine. The armrest was added somewhere along the line, not original to this banjo, but it works. The mounting stud spacing is not correct to this banjo, was probably on a 24 hook spaced banjo. Study all the pictures. There is a slight crack on the bottom end of the dowel stick. There are a few cracks on the base of the body / pot. The original case is a Geib, distinguished by the embossed diamond on the interior compartment lid. Tune it , she's play ready.
