Handcrafted masterpiece by the late James E. Patterson of Santa Cruz, California. This beautiful instrument was built in January 2001 (No. 233 of ~307 total), representing the pinnacle of his legendary career of around 300 hundred guitars. Mr. James Patterson - Guitarbuilder / luthier was the author of the definitive book Pearl Inlay: An instruction manual for inlaying abalone and mother-of-pearl by James E. Patterson
This model features all the hallmarks of a Patterson guitar with extensive abalone purfling with an incredible "Torch" style headstock inlay which was a specialty for which he was internationally renowned. The wonderful ebony fret board includes some amazing abalone position markers.
True to the Santa Cruz tradition, this guitar is highly resonant with a complex overtone profile. The body offers a balanced, punchy mid-range that makes it an ideal fingerstyle instrument, while providing the deep, rich lows you expect from a high-end custom build. A pickup system has been added and does the job well to amplify the musical nature of the instrument.

Condition:
The guitar is in very good condition. The wood has aged beautifully, offering a wide-open, mature sound. There is a pro repaired top-crack and the neck has been reset. these is also some pickguard area wear along with some minor finish checking or small dings consistent with a 20-year-old nitrocellulose finish, with no bridge lift. Two Piece Back with old strap locks added.
This is a rare opportunity to own an instrument from the luthier who literally wrote the book on Abalone Inlay.
