Alesis Andromeda A6 with the latest update version V1.40.12
The 8th voice has an issue, but everything else is working fine.
The Alesis Andromeda A6 is a legendary 16-voice true analog polyphonic synthesizer, released in 2000 (discontinued around 2005–2006 due to rising component costs). It was Alesis’s flagship analog poly synth at the time and is often regarded as one of the most powerful and complex non-modular analog synthesizers ever made, with extremely deep modulation capabilities and a highly intuitive control panel.
Key Features and Highlights
• True analog signal path — Fully analog oscillators, filters, VCAs, and envelopes (digitally controlled by a high-speed Motorola Coldfire processor for stability and patch recall).
• Polyphony and multitimbrality — 16-voice polyphony, 16-part multitimbral, perfect for layering or complex MIDI sequencing arrangements.
• Oscillators per voice — 2 main VCOs + 1 sub-oscillator per voice, offering 5 waveforms (sine, triangle, square/pulse, rising sawtooth, falling sawtooth). Supports hard/soft sync, FM (oscillator cross-modulation), and ring modulation.
• Filters per voice — Dual resonant filters:
• Filter 1: 2-pole multimode (low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, notch/band-reject).
• Filter 2: 4-pole low-pass (classic Moog ladder filter).
• Total of 32 filters across the instrument; routable in series, parallel, or split configurations.
• Modulation system — Extremely extensive:
• 3 LFOs per voice.
• Sample & hold generator.
• 3 multi-stage envelopes (contour generators) per voice, supporting various curves, looping, etc.
• Massive modulation matrix (dozens of sources/destinations).
• Built-in effects — Digital multi-effects processor (reverb, chorus, flanging, delay/echo, analog distortion, 4-voice pitch shifting, etc.), though many pro users bypass them in favor of external processing (since effects are monophonic per part).
• Other highlights:
• 61-key velocity + aftertouch keyboard.
• Ribbon controller (ideal for expressive pitch/modulation).
• Arpeggiator (up/down/up-down/random) and 16-step analog-style sequencer, both MIDI-syncable.
• 3 audio inputs (route external signals through filters/envelopes).
• Individual voice outputs.
• Memory: 256 presets + 128 user programs, 128 Mix/Performance setups.
• Extremely hands-on physical interface: 72 knobs, 114 buttons, 150 LEDs — very intuitive and perfect for real-time tweaking.
It excels at everything from razor-sharp analog leads, thick warm pads/strings, fat basses, cinematic sweeps, extreme sound design/FX, to dreamy atmospheric textures. Many users praise its “lush” (rich and full) and “deep” (profound modulation) qualities, especially shining on pads and evolving textures. While the factory presets feel a bit dated, it’s a dream machine for sound designers.
