Gibson / 1970 J-180 Everly Brothers

Unraveling the Specification Changes from 1969 to 1970

The differences compared to the 1969 J-180 Everly Brothers are the paint on the back of the headstock, the volute at the base of the headstock, and the bridge plate.

In terms of color, the 1969 model is finished in walnut, while the 1970 model is finished in black.
In fact, some 1969 models have a black painted back of the headstock, indicating that the specifications changed between 1969 and 1970.

At the base of the headstock, the 1969 model has a flat connection to the neck, while this 1970 model has a raised, volute-like base.
As with the paint on the back of the headstock, some 1969 models also have a volute-like finish, indicating that the back of the headstock specifications changed between 1969 and 1970.

The bridge plate is also different. The 1969 model has a maple bridge plate with only two bolts for the adjustable saddle, while the 1970 model has three additional bolts in addition to the bolts for the adjustable saddle, for a total of five bolts.
This suggests that the bridge has been strengthened.

[Representative Comment: Hoshino]

It's interesting to see the specification changes even within the same Everly Brothers model, which gives a sense of Gibson's era.
Despite being 16 inches, this guitar has a solid tone that's pleasant to play.
The difference in tone may be due to changes in the bridge plate specifications, etc.
