Rare Alto Saxhorn – Couesnon, 1901, Exposition Universelle Label
Magnificent Alto Saxhorn by Couesnon, manufactured in 1901 with the “Exposition Universelle 1900” label, a mark of quality at the time. This historical instrument is over 120 years old and is in remarkable condition for its age: all pistons are functional, tubing is straight and free of dents, and there is no rust.
Despite its age, it produces a beautiful, soft, velvety tone, reminiscent of a flugelhorn, making it both a collector’s piece and a fully playable instrument.
It comes with its vintage case, likely original.
Couesnon was one of France’s most prestigious brass instrument makers, with a history dating back to 1802 in Paris. By the turn of the 20th century, the company had a reputation for high-quality, reliable instruments used in military and brass bands, as well as orchestras. The “Exposition Universelle” label signified instruments of superior quality. Couesnon instruments from this period are prized today for their craftsmanship, tonal richness, and historical significance.
