Overview:
The Abomination is a replication of the classic Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi circuit, with some modifications to add flexibility in the tones you can create.
There have been over 20 versions of the Big Muff circuit over the years, with far more unofficial varations, as Electro-Harmonix famously changed part values throughout production runs, often without advertising these as new versions. The Abomination uses the same component values as the 1973 "Ram's Head" version of the Big Muff famously used by David Gilmour on many albums starting in about 1976, including Animals and The Wall.
Uses standard 9VDC center negative power supply (not included; standard for guitar pedals, compatible with 1 Spot, etc.).
Controls:
• Volume is the overall output.
• Sustain controls the amount of drive or distortion, which also affects the amount of sustain.
• Tone is the standard Big Muff tone control that pans between a low-pass filter (high cut) and a high-pass filter (low cut). At the 12:00 position, the bass and treble are flat, and the midrange tone response is based on the setting of the Mids switch.
• Mids (three-position switch) controls the level of midrange in the signal and has a huge effect on tone. The down position is a mid scoop which sets the mids equal to the stock setting for the '73 Ram's Head Big Muff. Switch to the up position for a mid-hump setting which will cut through the mix, or the middle position for flat mids. The effect of the Mids switch is greatest when the Tone knob is at 12:00. With the Mids switch down (mid scoop) and the Tone control at 12:00, there will be a mid scoop at about 1kHz.
