Matsumoku-built Dixon Country Gentleman

This is a great-sounding late-’60s Japanese take on the classic Gretsch-inspired “Country Gentleman” style, complete with the signature painted f-holes. It’s got that big hollowbody character—clear, woody, and lively—with a ton of vibe for the money.

Very Good overall cosmetically, showing light, honest playwear: a few minor scratches on the back of the lower bout and a small ding here and there. The binding has aged into a warm, yellowed ivory-ish color and remains in notably nice shape.

Rosewood fingerboard with offset mother-of-pearl inlays, aged gold hardware, original enclosed tuners, and original pickguard. Electronics are functioning as intended, with a wide range of usable tones.

Note:

  • Tremolo is missing. This model used the same Matsumoku-era tremolo tailpiece found across many factory-built hollowbody models of the period, so it’s a relatively standard/compatible style if a replacement is desired.
  • Headstock badge is missing.

Rare, cool Matsumoku-built hollowbody—and a genuinely fun player.
