Collings Guitars are one of the most highly acclaimed brands in the world, establishing a unique identity based on traditional pre-war style. Their unparalleled sonic perfection has earned them the esteem of discerning luthiers, top-tier professional artists, and players alike. It's a brand every player covets. This instrument is a pre-owned 2004 custom-built in the classic D18 style with optional wood options. It features a carefully selected Adirondack spruce top, mahogany back and sides, a mahogany neck, an ebony fingerboard and bridge, Waverly 4060 tuners, dot fingerboard inlays, a tortoiseshell pickguard, tortoiseshell cell binding, a Collings-inspired Advanced Scalloped X-bracing top, and a retrofitted L.R. Baggs Dual Source. While a typical dreadnought is known for its deep sound, the Collings adds clarity, pitch, and volume. The sound is tight and clear, yet the resonance is open. There's no muddling or blending, resulting in a highly separated sound. The wide range of tone makes it easy to forget it's made of mahogany. The dry, unobtrusive sound and crisp brightness are likely due to the mahogany. Above all, thanks to its tight sound, the sound is clear no matter where you press on the fingerboard, a unique quality you'll only find on a Collings. This is a welcome addition to jazz and bluegrass, where notes move up and down the fingerboard. Its volume also makes it a popular choice among bluegrass musicians. High-quality in every respect, this is a new standard that captures the classics. It features an L.R. Baggs Dual Source retrofit, an under-saddle piezo and microphone system that could be considered the predecessor of the Anthem. Unfortunately, it's now discontinued. The internal circuit board allows you to switch between mono and stereo outputs, adjust the phase, and adjust the microphone's low-cut frequency. These functions allow for a more mic-heavy setup, and you can also apply EQ individually to the stereo outputs. The controls next to the sound hole are simple, consisting of Master Vol and Mic Vol. This highly flexible setup offers an excellent system. While there are signs of use, such as scratches around the sound hole, weathering on the bottom of the body top, minor scratches on the pickguard, and a thin scratch on the bottom of the body top near the sixth string, it is in excellent condition considering its 20-year history. The neck is well-tuned for playability, and there's plenty of room for adjustment of string height. This is a guitar that lets you fully experience Collings quality. This exceptional dreadnought is perfectly suited to everything from bold stroke playing to flat-pick handling of low-to-high bluegrass and jazz styles, as well as delicate fingering techniques that demand delicate expression. Experience it for yourself! Original hard case included.
