Roland Strings RS-202 Vintage String and Brass Synth
This is a Vintage Roland Strings RS-202 Synthesizer in very good condition, offering the lush, classic 1970s string ensemble sounds that made it a studio staple. This analog string synth features full polyphony, ensemble and chorus effects, and separate outputs for strings and bass. It delivers warm, rich textures with intuitive controls and a distinctive tonal character that shines in any mix.
Excellent examples of professional use are by Tony Banks of Genesis:
- Wind & Wuthering Album (1976) : All in a Mouse's Night
- ...And Then There Were Three... Album (1978): Many Too Many
And Pete Bardens of Camel:
- Moonmadness Album (1976): Lunar Sea
Perfect for collectors or musicians seeking authentic vintage string sounds with reliable performance.
Condition:
This is a used unit.
Please review all photos and video clips.
Physically, the keyboard is in very good condition showing some signs of use and age.
All keys are functional and the white keys have turned a light cream colour.
Some small paint chips, scratches and a Stravinsky stamp on the surface.
A couple of sliders/switches may need some cleaning as they occasionally cause some static noise when moved during playing, but that appears to be it.
It does not have the original detachable sheet music stand.
The outer Tolex case has seen more wear and tear.
It has residual cat paw prints on the lid top, though it's been cleaned.
The front securing latches are intact and functional.
The case is missing the following items:
- the power cable door,
- 5 of the small rubber foot bumpers (on the outside bottom surfaces)
- the top half of each slip joint hinge that secures the lid to the keyboard in the back
(where it pivots to open).
This causes the lid to partially separate from the keyboard when carried if not strapped down.
These can be easily repaired with a new set of inexpensive slip joint hinges.
Overall it is a nice piece and in very good condition for a machine released 50 years ago (1976)!
The unit is being sold as is.
Please inspect all photos and watch video clips to verify:
1) Functionality (apologies for the lousy phone recording quality and complete absence of Tony Banks or anyone that knows how to play)
- See appended clip
and then,
2) How it actually sounds when played by someone that knows how to play and properly record.
