AA1164 Circuit: We use the legendary 1964 Blackface Princeton Reverb (AA1164) circuit with 6V6 power tubes. One channel with spring reverb and tremolo. Same as the original '64 Princeton.
Upgrades: Our build is true to the Fender AA1164 circuit. However, we include many universally praised upgrades that are recommended by Ted Weber, Rob Robinette and others:
- Adjustable bias: We add a bias pot that allows easier biasing of the power tubes. You just turn the pot, rather than swap out resistors. We've already biased it here, so you are set.
- Power tube gird stop and screen resistors added: We add these resistors to help the power tube circuit deal with heavy overdrive and sweeten the overdrive tone
- "Death cap" deleted: We delete this cap to increase safety when servicing your amp
- Tremolo depth and slow mod: We replace 1M tremolo oscillator resistor with a 330k resistor to deepen the tremolo, and we replace the 0.100uF middle tremolo oscillator cap with a 0.022uF cap to slow the tremolo. This mod makes the tremolo more usable over the range of the controls.
Speaker: We use a 10" Weber Ferromax speaker that is specially designed to sound awesome in this amp. Speaker is hand-made in Kokomo Indiana.
Custom Color: You get a custom color, which Fender does not offer.
Compare to Fender Blues Junior. This amp is about the same size and weight as a Blues Junior. But the similarity stops there. We’ve tested this against our in-house Blues Junior, one of the most popular amps on the market, and can’t believe how much better the Princeton sounds. The Princeton has more warmth, bottom end, clarity and clean headroom. It’s hard to believe they are both 12-15 watt tube amps with 10” to 12” speakers. The Blues junior, which is a great sounding amp, sounds anemic by comparison. The difference was so drastic, we thought there was something wrong with our Blues Junior. So we started swapping out tubes and speakers, but that didn’t change anything. The Princeton is still the clear winner!

Standard of Care: We strive to meet our clients’ expectations, and we want you to be happy with your purchase. Please keep in mind that our Dr. T’s Tone Factory and Weber brand amps are hand-built one at a time, not mass-produced in an ISO 9000 factory. Our hand-built amps may have artifacts that some people might view as flaws. We do not guarantee that our amplifiers will be cosmetically flawless, and we don’t accept returns or give partial refunds due to cosmetic imperfections. The amp you will get is the one in the photos and described in the listing. If you have questions or concerns, please ask before agreeing to buy.
Shipping: We ship amps via UPS ground. The fee shown includes shipping within the contiguous USA with insurance. It also includes packaging materials and our time to pack and drop at UPS. Shipping costs are usually controlled by box size and insurance is based on value.
Local Pickup: We offer free pickup at our shop in San Diego County. If you’re close, consider paying us a visit.
Delivery Time: Once UPS receives your amp, they will estimate a delivery date, which you can access via Reverb. UPS will typically deliver your amp within 2 to 7 business days depending on your distance from Southern California. If you're in a hurry, please let us know and we’ll do our best to accommodate you, or at least we can advise you of the estimated wait, so you can decide if you need to make other arrangements.
Damage Claims: Although rare, sometimes amps are damaged during shipping. If you receive an amp that is damaged, please let us know immediately so we can open a claim.
Returns and Canceled Orders: We are a small business and can’t afford to offer free returns like the big guys. There is a lot of time, effort and cost involved with processing your order, pulling your amp from inventory, preparing, packing and shipping it. Please make sure you want the amp before you agree to buy it. If we agree to a return or to cancel your order, you will be responsible for all incurred shipping costs (both ways) and a restocking fee to cover our time. Shipping amps is expensive, so this may be costly.
