Univox Effector Vintage Electric Guitar w/ Built-In Effects – Sunburst – Late 1960s – Japan Late 1960's - Sunburst

This is a vintage Univox Effector electric guitar, made in Japan in the late 1960s (circa 1967–1969). The Effector is one of Univox’s most ambitious and unusual designs from the golden era of Japanese guitar manufacturing and is widely associated with Matsumoku-era production.

What makes the Effector unique is its onboard effects system, an extremely forward-thinking concept for the time. The guitar features built-in fuzz, tremolo, echo-style effect, wah/filter effect, phase switching, a speed control for modulation effects, and a headphone output — all controlled directly from the oversized pickguard panel. This allowed players in the late ’60s to experiment with effects without external pedals, something that was very rare at the time.

The guitar features a sunburst finish, dual humbucking pickups, set neck construction, rosewood fingerboard with block inlays, adjustable bridge with separate tailpiece, and the original control layout. These models are now sought after by collectors, experimental players, and fans of early effects-driven guitar design.

Condition-wise, this guitar is in Good (Vintage) condition, with cosmetic wear consistent with age and use. There are multiple finish chips, scratches, and dents throughout the body, along with visible binding wear and separation along the body edges. Extra holes are present near the bridge area and are clearly shown in the photos. The pickguard shows scratching and wear, and the hardware has tarnish consistent with age. The neck appears straight, frets show wear consistent with age but remain playable, and all original components appear to be present. Could use a small amount of fret work as well, you can see a couple are coming up from the fretboard, It is still playable will just need to keep an eye on.

Due to the complexity and age of the onboard effects system, functionality should be expected to reflect vintage condition. This instrument is being sold as a vintage piece, and all wear and cosmetic issues have been documented clearly in the photos.
