Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.
You are looking at a somewhat rare and very high quality 1960's era Electro Voice 648 model dynamic microphone set at Low impedance (150 OHMS) and is excellent for general broadcasting. You don't see too many of these mics around. The 648 was a good lavalier mic as well meaning it was usually worn around the neck though it can be mounted on many mic clips as well as placed on a gooseneck. This mic is mounted on a period Atlas GN-6 gooseneck which is attached to the period Atlas DS-14 desk stand. It also comes with the short 6 foot cable in which to operate.
The mic has been tested and the element is excellent working. This will be great for a HAM radio set up or any studio setting.
The mic is technically "Low Z" but at 150 OHMS this mic lacks bass and it's far more mid range to higher pitched for a mic. I have only come across a few of these 648 model mics over the years and I find that this is the same for all I have come across. The signal strength is strong though.
This microphone is ultra lite weight and has a stock painted tube that shows typical lite wear as you can see in the pics provided. Electro Voice painted the mic as the all chrome bodies were not ideal for live T.V or televised events with the extreme glare the chrome would put off. The E.V badge looks really nice and the front grill is free of dents, tarnish or odors. This 648 is an easy 8 on a scale of 1 - 10 physically speaking. Just a few small blemished on the painted body.
The 648 is appx 5 inches long X 1 inch across at the tip. Again, the mic has a short 6 foot cable which runs down the rear inside of the mic through the gooseneck and exits out the lower chrome riser. The cable has a female XLR end connector as well as the Switchcraft male to male XLR adapter and male 1/4 inch end connector. You have to use the male 1/4 inch end connector in order to operate the mic. The cable is soft, pliable and free of damage.
The mic comes with the chrome Atlas GN-6 gooseneck that gives a wide degree of tilt up or down and looks incredible. Flexible but firm.
MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOS IS PART OF THIS SALE...
The Atlas DS-14 first came out in the late 1950's and made for a wide stable (lite weight) platform keeping your mic from easily tipping over. It's made of cast iron and has original black paint that looks gorgeous. It comes with the 4 inch chrome riser. With the mic and stand this is appx 16 inches tall with the mic raised up completely.
The stand is a 9 + on a scale of 1 - 10.
3 new felt pads keep it from scratching any surface it rests on.
The stand is appx 6 inches wide X 7 inches deep.
The DS-14 with E.V 648 is a very nice combo that will be great to use for many situations..
As with all my vintage microphones...
