Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a classic 1970's Electro Voice 664A dynamic cardioid microphone and easily one of the finest mics of it's time having a lot in common with the RE-15 and RE16 model mics. This microphone comes with the longer cable in which to operate.

Pic # 2 shows this very model as well as most of it's technical info from an old data sheet I have. The data sheet is not included however.

The 664 series microphone was first manufactured and sold around 1950 and was a state of the art dynamic cardioid model in the E.V line up. It quickly became E.V's bread and butter mic and was built to last have very high quality control and built like a tank. The 1st gen 664 was twice as large being much thicker but as the technology improved E.V was able to build a much smaller version of the 664 with it's 3rd gen 664A.

The 664A is a bit more elegant. Much lighter as well but just as durable and rugged. The 664A has an all metal body with a beautiful satin chrome finish and comes with that noticeable lower pistol grip which has the on / off switch and standard XLR input. Again, this is one of the finest mics E.V has ever built. The 664A had a run between the years of about 1970 and 1980 before being discontinued but this mic was also sold under the name University sound for a few years later. Exact same mic but a different label.

This 664A will rival any fine quality mic being made today and makes most mics of today sound inferior. It's a lesser known model as it hasn't been sold in many decades now but this mic will outlive you if properly taken care of. It's just that good.

The 664A also has a built in impedance switch making it easy to use with any audio equipment you have. The High / Low setting is right under the switch. You simply remove the 2 small screws on the switch cover then slide the High / Low mechanism into place and then screw the cover back into place. it takes about 20 seconds to do. Super easy. you'll see the mic is currently set on Hi Z giving you a smooth clean tone that is very lite on the bass. Switch into Low Z mode and you get a full rich tone with plenty of warm bass.

The lower pistol grip has a perfect working on / off switch. The threads for a stand are perfect as well and I cleaned the XLR pins as they were tarnished from age. You'll get a perfect signal once the cable is installed into the mic. The tension to tilt the mic is adjustable via side screw.

As you can see this mic is very with very lite signs of wear. The E.V badge and switch cover look very nice and completely legible. The front chrome grill is free of dents, odors or tarnish and I installed new inner foam as the original pop filter was all but wore out from age. This mic is good for another 50 years at least.

The longer 22 foot cable is great for situations where your mic is much farther away from your audio equipment. The cable is soft, pliable and in excellent condition with two XLR connectors.

If you demand an excellent working 664A to use frequently...this is your mic. This will make a very special gift for a friend or for yourself and with the rarity and condition of this mic the value will only increase as the years go by.

The 664A will screw onto any stand you plan on using.

MICROPHONE STAND IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY.

As with all my other vintage microphones...

I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not...I have a no hassle return policy. The return shipping will be on you as I believe that's fair but the purchase price would be refunded. Simply return in the same nice condition...period. Check my rating. If you don't intend on buying this...do not commit to buy please. Domestic buyer will get priority shipping.
