2003 Gibson ’68 Les Paul Custom F 1968 Reissue Electric Guitar with a Figured Lemon Burst Finish! The introduction of the Les Paul Custom to the Gibson family in late 1953 brought about a guitar which had all the attributes of a regular Standard, but also included some more “luxurious” appointments meant to impress players and spectators alike. Binding around the body, the larger split-diamond headstock, gold hardware, and a sleek tuxedo-like appearance made this guitar a distinguished gentleman, whereas the Goldtop Les Paul Standard could be seen as its more blue-blooded brethren. Eight years after its discontinuation in 1960, the LPC would make its comeback with some modifications from its 50s predecessor. A maple top was added on the mahogany body and the middle pickup was removed, effectively making the tonal profile of the Custom more geared towards simple, down and dirty Rock ‘n Roll. Some contend that the ’68 Customs are the finest iterations of the instrument since their creation, and there is a large demand for reissues of these historic guitars.

Now, you may be wondering what the “F” stands for, but just take one look at the top on this beauty and you can probably guess! Stunning tight-pinstripe figuring adorns this maple cap. This top is truly a work of art, and we can confirm that—yes—it does sound just as good as it looks. Two Gibson Custom Shop ’68 Custom Humbuckers give this guitar a fiery, yet sweet voice that evokes the best of what Gibson tone can offer. This thing sounds mean and full, but still articulated and clear. With a slightly chunky ’68 neck, it plays very comfortably and feels as solid as a rock. Anyone who has a special place in their heart for ’68 Customs would be in tone-heaven with this Custom “F.” Excellent Shape with some hardware fade and tarnish, a few minor indents and light marks and some pickguard wear, 9/10!
