The Gibson Les Paul Standard 1958 Reissue, also known as the R8, is a high-end electric guitar from the Gibson Custom Shop's Historic Collection, celebrated for its vintage-accurate features and "chunky C" neck profile.
1958 was the year the erstwhile Goldtop transitioned to an eye-catching sunburst finish, which makes the '58 one of the most iconic solidbody guitars ever made. Handcrafted by Gibson's elite Custom Shop luthiers, the 1958 Les Paul Standard Reissue captures the essence of this important instrument in all its glory.
Key Features and Specifications
The Gibson Custom Shop 1958 Les Paul Standard Reissue is meticulously crafted to replicate the original instruments from the year Gibson introduced the sunburst finish.
- Body: Features a non-weight-relieved one-piece mahogany body and a rare two-piece lightly figured maple top, joined with hot hide glue for maximum resonance.
- Neck: The neck is solid mahogany with a substantial "Chunky C" or "50s Rounded Medium C" profile, which is a defining characteristic of the R8 models.
- Fingerboard: An Indian rosewood fingerboard is attached with hide glue and features a 12-inch radius, 22 Historic narrow/tall frets, and aged cellulose nitrate trapezoid inlays.
- Pickups: It is equipped with unpotted Custombucker Alnico III humbucking pickups, designed to authentically recreate the highly sought-after vintage PAF (Patent Applied For) tones.
- Hardware: Period-correct hardware is used throughout, including a no-wire ABR-1 tune-o-matic bridge, a lightweight aluminum stop bar tailpiece. Replacement Grover tuners, and strap pins.
- Finish: Light Iced Tea Burst, VOS (Vintage Original Sheen) nitrocellulose lacquer finish.
