?? Overall Tonal Character of Bocote
Bocote tends to sound like:
A more balanced, more focused version of rosewood, with punchier mids and tighter bass.
?? Bocote + Spruce Top (Most Common Combination)
Spruce = bright, clear, powerful, lots of headroom
Bocote = reflective, articulate, bass-rich
Tone result:
- Strong projection
- Bright, clear trebles
- Punchy and defined bass
- Excellent dynamic range
- Versatile—good for strumming and fingerstyle
Think:
Rosewood-like clarity + slightly more mid presence.
This pairing gives you the “modern acoustic” sound with detail and power.
? Why Bocote Is a Great Tonewood for Acoustic Guitars1. Dense, Reflective Hardwood = Strong Projection
Bocote is a dense tropical hardwood, similar in density to Cocobolo or Ziricote.
Dense woods reflect more sound energy rather than absorbing it.
This gives bocote-bodied guitars:
- Loud projection
- Very clear note definition
- Strong low-end presence
- Glass-like trebles
It favors players who want bold, articulate tone rather than a soft, mellow response.
The Gold-OC6 receives a special enhancement for its sides and back: a gorgeous exotic tonewood named Bocote. Bocote is best known for its majestic wood grain patterns in yellow, orange, and dark brown, with distinct black lines, and for its warm, deep sound, much like rosewood. The rest of the Gold-OC6 Bocote remains the same, with outstanding features like the ATV (Aged-to-Vintage) torrefied top, sonically enhanced UV finish, and Fishman Flex Blend system. With the introduction of the new Bocote option, our most popular Gold Series guitar is now more enticing than ever.
Features
Aged to Vintage Top
A vintage instrument is the holy grail of acoustic guitar tone. The wood on the top cures and opens up more over time. This unleashes a tonal quality that is missing in new instruments – until now. Using a special process we call ATV (Aged To Vintage), we treat the solid Sitka spruce top to give it the big, open tone of a decades-old, highly sought-after acoustic. This torrefaction process delivers that excellent tone to you right out of the box.
Solid Sitka Spruce Top with Solid Bocote Back & Sides
Best known for its majestic wood grain patterns, the exotic Bocote comes from the same family as Ziricote and is found in a similar region (Central America to Northern Amazon). Tonally speaking, Bocote is more identical to rosewood and has warm, deep bass, broad spectrum of mids, and plenty of good volume with long sustain Bocote is a perfect match for the premium grade solid Sitka spruce top found in our Gold Series, with a brilliant and clear high-end, warm and rich midrange, and a deep but tight low-end for a beautifully balanced combination of tones.
OM Cutaway Body
The Gold-OC6 Bocote features a classic OM body style with a cutaway. This body style, which initially developed in the 1920s, captures the prized pre-war era tone often sought after. Sonically, it delivers a sound that is larger than its compact size would suggest, with a level of dynamic responsiveness that makes it a joy to play.
Fishman Flex Blend System
With a sophisticated, modern design and innovative engineering, the Fishman Flex Blend System offers a wide range of sonic control, along with a built-in tuner. The Volume, Tone, Phase, Blend, and Tuner functions are all available via three knobs and the tuner display. You can also adjust the Tone knob to best suit fingerpicking or strumming techniques, without feedback or other sonic anomalies, while delivering the most natural acoustic sound to your amplification system.
Ebony Bridge Pins
The high density of Ebony wood keeps the fundamental acoustic sound focused and tight, with greater sonic projection than plastic, enhancing the transfer of string vibrations throughout the soundboard top, body, and neck.
Macassar Ebony Fingerboard
Very similar to Rosewood in both looks and sound, the Macassar Ebony produces a deep, lush sound with transparent highs. The wood's detailed grain adds a luxurious, high-end look.
Hand-Rolled Fret Edge Treatment
The shaping and treatment of a guitar's frets significantly impact comfort and performance. Most guitar makers bevel the frets at each end to eliminate the sharp edges. Boutique acoustic builders, however, use a method to dress their frets, making them round, smooth, and ultra-comfortable to touch and play. This process is highly complex and time-consuming and requires the skilled artistry of experienced artisans. On the Gold, the Cort offers this enhancement, typically reserved for much higher-priced instruments.
Neck Profile
Cort has developed a comfortable neck thickness from the headstock to the heel to increase comfort in your hands and optimize playability. To ensure consistency, Cort uses state-of-the-art CNC machines to mill each neck accurately. Each neck is then carefully sanded and finished by skilled craftsmen who are dedicated and passionate about building some of the best acoustic guitars in the world, with neck thickness from the headstock to the heel to increase comfort in your hands and optimize playability. DoubleLock Neck Joint
The connection between a guitar’s neck and body is another key factor for great sound. On the Gold, we started with a tight-fitting traditional dovetail neck joint. We then reinforced it by adding a bolt. This DoubleLock neck joint maximizes tone transfer and enhances resonance on the Gold.
Walnut Reinforced Neck
The neck on the Gold has been reinforced for added rigidity and stability using two special inserts. This is constructed from two walnut pieces installed to add stability while retaining the natural properties of wood, further enhancing the Gold.
Sonically Enhanced UV Finish
UV finish is about 30% thinner than standard finishes, and this allows the wood to "breathe†and vibrate more freely. This process requires a shorter drying time and reduces chemical interaction between the finish and the woods, which is ideal for your instrument’s longevity. Due to its much shorter drying time and the absence of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) in the UV finish material, it is also an environmentally friendly process. This high-tech finish is strong enough to resist scratches but lightweight enough to enhance the body's natural acoustic resonance, delivering a whole, rich tone.
Exclusive Deluxe Soft-Side Case
The new Cort Deluxe Soft-Side Case is not only stylish and sleek, but also combines the best attributes of a hard case with the flexibility of a padded gig bag, providing superb protection for the instrument and excellent portability.

Why is this b-stock?
B-Stock items have minor cosmetic blemishes that were discovered during the set-up and inspection process. These are strictly cosmetic and do not affect the playability of the instrument. Many times, the blemish is so small you will have a hard time finding it w/ the naked eye.
In other cases, the b-stock status comes from the model being discontinued, and it is in brand-new condition.
B-Stock items carry a Full Mechanical Warranty, but since they are being sold as a B-Stock, they do not carry a cosmetic warranty. Only instruments w/ minor cosmetic blemishes and/or discontinued are B-Stock. We will not sell instruments w/ greater issues.
We offer these out of an ever-changing open inventory of b-stock pieces at our distributor's. They don't provide specifics of the issue that caused the b-stock classification.
