The Orion is built on Antelope's Synergy Core FX processing platform. Synergy Core is the pairing of DSP and FPGA chips for the specific purpose of running effects, so your computer doesn't have to. No more printing plugins to save processing power for "important" tracks, they're all important, aren't they? The idea is each type of chip is better at certain processes, so Antelope decided to combine them to form an extremely powerful and versatile solution.
You'll definitely need the processing power because you'll get 50 of Antelope's best real-time effects plugins and emulations right out of the box. The included pallet ranges from mic preamps, compressors, reverbs, and EQs to guitar amp and cabinet models, many based on the most storied vintage gear ever. Plus, with Synergy Core handling the processing, you'll enjoy latency-free direct monitoring, so what you're hearing is actually what you're hearing.
The front end of Orion is equally impressive. You'll be greeted by 12 discrete microphone preamps feeding pristine A/D (analog to digital) converters that deliver immaculate tracks to your DAW. Recording line input instruments? Simply use the 1/4" input on the combo jacks and the signal goes directly to the converters. And since time is not relative in the studio, you'll get Antelope's legendary clocking to ensure everything enters, departs, and arrives on time, exactly as intended. Sample rates run from 44.1KHz to 192KHz, and to make sure you can hear every detail, the Orion comes with D/A converters that boast a 130dB dynamic range on the monitor outputs.
