Bastl Citadel FX Wizard — Dual Personality Flip-Panel Module: Wave Bard Stereo Sample Player & FX Wizard Nine-Mode Multi-FX. Two Modules for One!

The CITADEL is a Eurorack reimagining of the popular Kastle 2 semi-modular desktop device, offering two distinct creative tools in a single 16HP module. Flip the reversible front panel to choose between WAVE BARD (stereo sample player) or FX WIZARD (multi-effects processor) — switching is a rather seamless affair with the custom tool that comes included. Once flipped, swap the firmware to turn it into the other module.

Comes pre-assembled as the Wave Bard (Flip the frontplate to turn it into the FX Wizard).

First, the Wave Bard Side — don’t make beats, let them naturally emerge! This experimental stereo sample player is a semi-autonomous companion that keeps surprising you with fresh ideas. Get instant inspiration from the carefully crafted factory sound bank by Oliver Torr, or load your own samples via the web-based app.

Play melodic samples in quantized scales, sequence groovy off-grid beats with the built-in pattern generator and LFO, or reverse sounds with the unique reversing envelope. The LENGTH knob controls both decay and attack — turn it left to reverse samples and add attack time. Built-in filter, delay, and chorus/flanger effects add extra sonic spice.

Second, the FX Wizard Side — Explore the limits of sound processing through modulation and modularity. Choose from 9 stereo effects across three families: DELAY (delay, flanger, freezer), AMPLITUDE (panner, crusher, slicer), and PITCH-SHIFTING (pitcher, replayer, shifter). Instead of navigating presets, craft unique effects with dynamic behavior using modulation from the LFO, pattern generator, or envelope follower.

Citadel packs a whole lot into its dual nature: stereo headphone output, TRS MIDI input, tempo generator with divider/multiplier, USB MIDI (from the back), stereo mixing, integrated LFO and pattern generator. It comes with a full 3.5mm patch bay and added switches for hands-on pattern control — perfect for smaller and beginner systems while earning its place in larger setups.

Load different Citadel/Kastle 2 firmwares and updates via USB-C on the back of the module.
