The Nick Lucas model, introduced in 1928 as the world’s first artist signature guitar, originally featured a 12-fret neck joint. It later evolved to 13 frets, and by the mid-1930s, the design settled at 14 frets.

Over the years, several reissue versions have been released, and this instrument is the very first of those commemorative editions — a 1991 Gibson Nick Lucas Reissue, the earliest model in the reissue series, now available as a used piece.

Nick Lucas was a jazz guitarist and singer active from the 1920s, and this model—created especially for him—became the world’s first artist signature guitar.

It features ornate fingerboard inlays, a fleur-de-lis headstock inlay, and a classic script logo, giving it a uniquely striking visual character. The model also gained fame as the guitar Bob Dylan played in the 1960s.

After the original Nick Lucas guitars ceased production in the early 1940s, this 1991 Limited Edition Reissue (100 units only) marked the model’s revival after nearly fifty years of silence. The label inside the body bears the signature of Ren Ferguson.

Though compact in width, the body has dreadnought-level depth, producing a rich and powerful maple tone even with a light touch.

There is a minor crack repair at the bottom end, and traces of tuner replacement as well as an enlarged endpin hole (12 mm) from previous pickup installation. While the guitar shows some wear and signs of use overall, they suit the vintage character of this reissue perfectly.
