Up for sale, a 1974 Fender Competition Mustang in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. One of the very last Competition Mustangs produced, this guitar is a unique example with one gray bobbin pickup and one black bobbin pickup, both original to the instrument and representing Fender's reintroduction of black fiber bobbins on their pickups in certain instances circa '74.

A bold, snappy-sounding Mustang, the single coils offer plenty of jangle and sparkling cut, with a bold, round sound in the neck position and more aggressive growl at the bridge. Engaging the on/off/on pickup switches in their outermost or innermost settings delivers the Mustang's spanky out-of-phase setting. Lightweight at 7lbs 3oz, this Competition Mustang has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 11-49 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The gloss Competition Red finish exhibits some checking and bronzing, and there are a few touched-up finish chips on the treble-side perimeter. There is an area of finish loss on the outside edge of the bass-side cutaway, scattered chips in the gloss, and some finish scratches on the back. The neck profile retains its smooth ambered gloss, highlighting tight birdseye figuring in the maple, with some shallow marks along the profile length worn smooth through play.

The original black tolex hardshell case is included.
