Gibson / 1966 J-45 Cherry Sunburst

"A sophisticated, refined look, different from natural."

Cherry Sunburst, introduced in 1962 as the successor to the Brown Sunburst, is characterized by a vibrant reddish and soft orange hue, a departure from the black and brown finish.

-A sophisticated, faded color.

The spruce body fades in red over time, revealing a vibrant orange hue.

Looking closely, you can see traces of the cherry color, albeit slightly, on the edges of the body.

From 1964 onward, a thicker, more intensely reddish large pickguard was adopted, but this model has been replaced with a thinner tortoiseshell-patterned pickguard that was used prior to 1964.

It's likely that this was replaced with the Cherry Sunburst models from 1962-1963 in mind.

The back and sides are made of mahogany and are painted with a reddish finish to match the cherry color.
The back and sides are finished in a different color from the brown sunburst, adding another layer of color fun.

The rosette is a double-ring, a design first used in 1963.

The fingerboard is made of rosewood and features filled-in dot position markers.

The neck has a thin profile, reflecting the narrow neck style introduced in 1965.

The rosewood bridge in the upper belly features adjustable saddles.
Some models feature adjustable saddles made from a mix of ceramic and wood.

The headstock is silkscreened with a gold Gibson modern logo, typical of a J-45.
The bell-shaped truss rod cover is a single-piston.

The tuning machines are Kluson Deluxe three-piece tuning machines with two lines of white buttons.
The shaft extending toward the third-string tuning peg button is bent, but please rest assured that tuning is still possible.

The cherry finish with a hint of red is highly sought after, but this guitar's faded finish is also very appealing.

Its subtle patina, different from natural finishes, is enhanced by the weather-checked finish.
