The Magnatone Model 197-3-V Varsity is a 5-watt tube amplifier produced from 1947-1952, the widely considered "golden age" of Magnatone; this one has a date written inside the cabinet of May 1950. Original Philco speaker.
Features a single-channel design with a single 8-inch speaker and a single volume control. Its tube complement includes a 6SJ7 preamp tube, a 6V6 power tube, and a 5Y3 rectifier tube. This amp is known for its clean tone with saturation at half volume and was a popular choice for guitarists in the 1950s.
