PRS S2 Special Semi-Hollow Reclaimed Limited Edition.
Meet the PRS S2 Special Semi-Hollow Reclaimed Limited Edition, a run of 700 unique instruments crafted from reclaimed and salvaged woods. Featuring a Peroba Rosa top, Cuban Mahogany neck, and Guaribu Preto fretboard, each guitar is ready to tell a new story.
This 700-piece limited edition highlights reclaimed and salvaged woods on one of PRS’s most versatile models: the S2 Special Semi-Hollow. With every top left as natural as possible, no two guitars are alike. Each instrument reflects the distinct character of its materials, offering a wide tonal spectrum — from articulate single-coil sparkle to full, vintage-inspired humbucking warmth.
The tonewoods for this series carry remarkable history. Peroba Rosa, often used as siding in Brazil, was chosen for the top. The density of this 100–150 year-old wood, paired with semi-hollow construction, delivers a punchy yet warm and full sound. The Cuban Mahogany necks were purchased from Puerto Rico, with some wood salvaged from trees felled by Hurricane Maria in 2017. Finally, the Guaribu Preto fretboards, sourced from Brazil, once served as structural beams in houses. To showcase this history, each guitar is finished in Natural satin nitro, with nail holes, wear, and discoloration intentionally left in the top wood.
“Wood is a crucial element to our guitar making heritage,” said Paul Reed Smith. “Michael Reid, our Senior Wood Buyer, has been my curly maple wood provider and buyer since 1980 — before PRS was officially PRS — and we still work together today. The deep relationships Michael has formed worldwide with our wood suppliers are remarkable. Guitars like this are a great way to highlight some of the interesting, personal stories from his travels and musical wood understanding.”
Beyond their unique reclaimed woods, these instruments retain many of the S2 Special Semi-Hollow’s standard specifications, including a 22-fret, 25" scale length Pattern Regular neck and humbucker/Narrowfield/humbucker pickup configuration. A 5-way blade switch and two mini-toggles allow players to tap the humbuckers, creating twelve distinct pickup combinations for endless sonic versatility.
Only 700 S2 Special Semi-Hollow Reclaimed Limited Edition guitars will be made in 2025.
