By connecting a divided pickup-equipped guitar, you can instantly transform its sound into numerous electric, acoustic, and stringed instruments. Alternate tunings are just a footswitch away, while legendary Roland sounds like the GR-300 and violin-inspired VIO guitar expand your sonic palette.

Dedicated Bass Mode

Switching to Bass Mode optimizes modeling algorithms for bass. Choose from a wide selection of electric, acoustic, and fretless basses, or even synth-like tones—all with zero latency. Guitar and bass memories are independent, allowing storage of up to 150 patches each.

Create Unreal Custom Guitars

With DUAL GUITAR/DUAL BASS, combine two instruments into a single performance setup. Assign different models to specific strings, split sounds across outputs, or layer unique tones that transcend traditional instruments.

Examples:

• Start with a 12-string acoustic intro, then switch to a powerful humbucker for the solo.
• Assign clean single-coils to the top strings and heavy distortion to the bottom strings.
• Play melody and bass lines simultaneously on one guitar.

Flexible Control for Performance

Three onboard footswitches can be freely assigned. Instantly switch instruments, tunings, or effects mid-song. With STRING BEND, alter the pitch of individual strings in real time. Adding an expression pedal enables dynamic control, such as morphing guitar types as you play.

Seamless Integration and Recording

Compact and pedalboard-friendly, the VG-800 can function as a complete rig on its own or integrate into your setup. It features amps, effects, and cabinet IRs, with stereo SEND/RETURN for pedals. As an audio interface via USB Type-C, it supports direct recording, re-guitar/re-bass functionality, and even Guitar-to-MIDI conversion for DAW integration.

At its core is the new GK-5 divided pickup, which processes each string independently for unmatched responsiveness. Latency-free alternate tunings, pitch bends, and instrument modeling become reality. The GK OUT terminal also enables seamless integration with Roland’s GM-800 guitar synthesizer.
