1987 Japan Original ESP Horizon I Custom – Metallic Gold, Rare
1987 Japan Original ESP Horizon I Custom – Metallic Gold, Rare
(See my other listings as well…)
This ESP Horizon Custom, built in Japan on December 18, 1987, is practically a time capsule. For a 38-year-old instrument, it remains in astonishingly fresh condition. It has been meticulously cared for in a collector’s hands over the years, and telling it apart from a brand-new guitar is nearly impossible.
The jumbo frets are spotless and completely original. The ebony fretboard is smooth, straight, and perfect for fast playing. The sculpted three-piece maple neck allows effortless access to the highest frets. While this model originally came without inlays, this particular guitar was custom-ordered with dot inlays. Its mahogany curved body not only ensures comfort but also adds to the striking aesthetics.
It features the Jackson-style headstock design that led to legal disputes, forcing ESP to later change their headstocks. Although some modern reissues exist, an original Horizon with a Jackson-style headstock is no longer possible to produce, making this an especially rare and desirable piece.
All hardware and electronics remain original and untouched, with the exception of a tasteful pickup upgrade:
- Bridge: Seymour Duncan TB-5 Custom Trembucker
- Neck: Seymour Duncan Little ’59 (single-coil sized humbucker)
The original pickups are safely stored in the case and can be reinstalled upon request.
Included with the guitar: original hard case, original pickups, and Floyd Rose tremolo arm.
