Epiphone and the Gibson™ Custom Shop have teamed up once again to bring you the updated 1963 Firebird V “Inspired by Gibson” with Maestro Vibrola tailpiece, an authentic replica of the guitar designed by legendary automobile designer Ray Dietrich. When it was launched in 1963, the Firebird™ was Gibson’s first neck-through model, and it went on to be used by musicians in a wide variety of genres, including blues legend Johnny Winter, Keith Richards and Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, and Phil Manzanera of Roxy Music, to name a few. This updated guitar offers vintage Firebird features at an affordable price.

Retro-inspired features include a 9-ply mahogany and walnut neck-through neck with mahogany “wings” on either side. This construction method anchors the tuning machines, pickup, and bridge in the same woods for exceptional resonance, sustain, and tone transfer. The neck features a rounded SlimTaper™ C-shaped profile with soft edges for a well-break-in, comfortable feel. The rosewood fingerboard features mother-of-pearl trapezoid inlays and 22 medium-wide frets. Even the side inlays are the same size and placement as on the original Firebirds. Kluson© epicyclic banjo-style tuning machines anchor the strings at the headstock and further extend the style of the original Firebirds, while an Epiphone ABR-1 bridge and Maestro™ Vibrola™ tailpiece with an engraved Epiphone logo hold them together at the other end.

The electronics are also top-quality and include Gibson USA Firebird alnico 5 mini humbucker™ pickups, CTS© potentiometers, Mallory™ capacitors, as well as a Switchcraft© 3-way pickup selector switch and a 1/4-inch output jack, giving this remarkable recreation not only the look, but also the sound of a classic Firebird V. A custom Epiphone "Inspired by Gibson" hardshell case is also included.
