The SG-1P (one pickup) SG Jr. model was available from 1987 to 1991, but there's no serial numbers on these guitars, and I'm not sure hot to read the date codes on these pots (if it's even possible), so I'm guessing that it's 1989. The first digit of the pot code is 9CW, so possibly 1989? Possibly something else, but it's in and around that date.

Who doesn't love a single pickup SG Jr? I think if you had to distill an electric guitar down to the bare bones, to it's simplest form, you'd likely end up with an SG Jr. No nonsense, just your fingers, the volume and tone pots, and your amp/rig.

The 1989/90 Samick catalog doesn't mention what wood was used for these models, so I'm not entirely sure what type of wood it is, but the Samick Wikia website mentions that it was built with a Nato neck and body - which is similar in look & tone to Mahogany. There is a 2 piece centre seam veneer of this wood on the top and bottom of the body, and the body itself is a pancake structure. I'm not sure why they built them like this, since the wood looks exactly the same -the veneer and the body wood. It's really hard to see seams between them - it's not like the later Epiphones that used a stripy mahogany top on a plain body that were usually completely different colours.

This Samick SG-1P looks awesome awesome in the classic cherry finish, with black plastics. The thing finish has sunken into the grain of the Nato or Mahogany body, giving it that vintage look.

The chrome hardware, including the Ping tuners, strap buttons, and the wrap around bridge, is all in great shape, with lots of shine left, and only small signs of pitting, corrosions or rust. Same with all of the black screws used for the pickguard, control cover, and truss rod cover.

The black plastics, including pickguard, truss rod cover, back cover, and the p90 dog ear pickup cover are also in good shape, with the typical pick marks and/or swirling found on a gloss black plastics from this era.

Surprisingly, the set neck uses a long neck tenon, as seen in the photos with the pickguard removed.

The neck on this one is relatively thin and narrow - with a nut width of just under 42mm (just over 1 5/8"), and a thickness of 20.8mm at the first fret, it makes its way up to 23mm at the 12th fret, with a comfortable C shape rounded carve to it, and is a joy to play. It's probably closest to a 60's style Gibson neck.

The fretboard is a beautiful chocolate brown rosewood, with nice grain from the nut to the 22nd fret, with very little signs of play wear on the frets or fretboard.

The 22 medium jumbo frets have some minor play wear on them, but not much, and there are lots of life left in the frets.

The original knurled speed volume and tone knobs are in good shape, and the pots work as expected.

The single P90 pickup is unmarked, and not mentioned what it is in the catalogs, but it measured at 5.88k ohm, and uses two AlNiCo magnets. It sounds very single coil like, not as fat as a higher wind p90. This guitar, maybe more than any other I've had, responds really well to changes in the volume and tone pots.

Like all the guitars I sell, I test, thoroughly clean, and setup my guitars completely before I list them. Anything that is missing, damaged, or non original is mentioned in the listing.

I setup all my Gibson style guitars to Gibson factory specs - including neck relief, action, pickup height, intonation, and tailpiece height. So this guitar will be ready to play out of the box (after you tune it up - I ship my guitars with the strings loosened).

Comes with a new quality made Profile G05TX gig bag.

Overall, this is classic guitar you'll love look at almost as much as you'll love to play it - it plays well, looks awesome, is built really well, and just sounds good.

Weather you're a player, or collector, you'll want this 1989 Samick SG-1P in your collection today.

CONDITION ------------

Overall it's in good player grade shape.

I've tried to capture all of the flaws in the photos and in the description.

The low E side tailpiece stud might be replaced - it does not match the high E side, but both work as expected.

Over the entire body of the guitar, top, back, sides, neck and headstock, there are many dings, dents, scratches, chips, swirling in the finish, but nothing major.

On the low E side of the neck, near the nut, there are some scuffs in the finish, but it is smooth to the touch and doesn't affect playing.

There is a dent in the finish on the side of the headstock between the G and B strings.

The black paint on the headstock has some swirling & scratches.

All of the black plastics, including the pickguard, truss rod cover, p90 cover, and control cover have typical scratches and swirling on them.

The chrome (and black) hardware, bridge, tailpiece, pickup pole pieces, tuners, are all in good shape, with only minor signs of corrosion, pitting, scratches, and rust. All the chrome still have lots of shine.

All of the original Ping sealed tuners are straight work as expected.

Around the strap buttons there's some typical strap marks/swirling.

There is very minor play wear the fretboard, but overall there's lots of life left in these frets, and they play well.

The truss rod works as expected, with room in both directions (it's a 5mm hex that is recessed into the truss rod route).
