1981 Charvel San Dimas built left hand Jazz Bass in highly figured ash for the 1981 DiMarzio Custom Order mail catalog. Only left hand example in the world that I am aware of, with 30 years of collecting Jacksons and Charvels all over the world. All original Gary Kahler (famous for his tremolos) brass parts made for Charvel at this time. Including the big block bridge, control plate, neck plate, nut and circular string tree. The neck pocket has the burned DiMarzio logo. The pots are the original DiMarzio stamped pots dated 1981. The neck heel appears to have a Faded DiMarzio logo with faded "lefty" mark and initials of "B.S." and other unintelligible English writing that has long faded away. The neck plate has the DiMarzio sun logo with trademark stamp. The bass has period correct West Germany Schaller tuners and USA Bartolini Jazz bass pickups flipped upside down due to the backwards orientation of a left handed bass, before the era of manufacturers making separate left hand versions of their pickups. The body is highly figured ash, exactly as seen in the 1981 DiMarzio caralog. You will note the catalog model codes begin with C for Charvel. These were never shipped with logos on the headstocks. The 25 fret Rosewood fretboard has side dots on both sides at the bottom and is clearly a very special custom order. The body is in its original natural stain finish with normal marks and aging expected from a 44 year old vintage bass. You will never find another one of these.
