1994 Fender Custom Shop 40th Anniversary Concert Edition Stratocaster. 1 of 40 ever made. These were an exclusive Custom Shop build through Fender's artist relations for the artists who participated in the "Curves, Contours & Body Horns" concert and documentary for ITV television in the United Kingdom. Eric Clapton, Paul Rodgers and George Harrison can each be seen with 3 of the 40 guitars in the documentary. This example appears to be the guitar given to Harrison based on its documented sale by Bonehams in 2008 when the famous London auction house was selling items from Harrison's estate. All 40 guitars were identical spec, only differing by the grain pattern of their bookmatched Ash body and their sequence number out of 40. One exception was made with lace sensor pickups. This one is number 30 from the historical Bonehams sale. Only a handful of the 40 were later made available to the public when given away bu the artists or sold at auction for charity. One was autographed by all of the artists and sold for £67,000 in 1996 at the annual Nordoff-Robbins charity auction, which was over $100,000 at the time. #11 sold for $32,200 plus buyer premium at Christie's New York auction house in 1999. This example #30 sold for the equivalent of $10,371 at Bonehams of London in 2008. There is a record of #28 selling for $20,000 in London in 2019. #1 was accidently dropped by Chris Rea on a film shoot and destroyed. #2 is with Ray Minhinnett, who worked with Fender artist relations to create the documentary and this limited run for the artists who contributed. #3 went to Jeff Lynne as a gift for allowing his Hollywood Hills home to be used for filming part of the documentary, including with Bonnie Raitt.

This is a fascinating guitar that was strictly given to the very best and most influential guitar players in the world who had a relationship with Fender.

Some of the documented contributors in the concert & documentary for this guitar were Keith Richards, Nile Rodgers, Eric Clapton, Hank Marvin, Chris Rea, George Harrison, Paul Rodgers, Nils Lofgren, Dweezil Zappa, Dave Gilmour, Mark Knopfler, Bryan Adams, Bonnie Raitt and Robin Trowe.

You had to be a very special artist to get one of these 40 custom guitars from Fender. The gold plated back covers are engraved to commemorate the experience and document the exclusivity of the instrument.
