Unlike the original, Fen-tone features modern upgrades including a custom Japanese ribbon, rare-earth Neodymium magnet, and CineMag USA transformer to deliver the iconic ribbon tones made popular in contemporary music on electric guitars, overheads, horns, and many more sources. Fen-tone adds an all-analog 26 dB JFET in-line preamp, allowing for active use - a critical feature for using ribbons directly with underpowered interface preamps.

• Figure-8 Polar Pattern: Fen-tone has a figure-8 polar pattern which helps eliminate side-address noise when recording. That means that Fen-tone will pick up what is directly in front of it and behind it.
