A Legacy of Excellence

Andrés Segovia launched his career playing a guitar of this caliber, using it for concerts and recordings from 1912 to 1937, including his U.S. debut at New York’s Town Hall in 1929. A similar model with maple back and sides was later owned by one of his students.

Originally built by Santos Hernández, who worked under José Ramírez, this historic instrument underwent modifications over time. The two-piece back, initially made of Brazilian rosewood, was replaced with curled maple, while the two-piece top remains spruce.
