Cofounded by Aerosmith’s Brad Whitford, renowned guitar tech Greg Howard ...and former Blockhead Amps mastermind Ossie Ahsen, 3 Monkeys is one of the most buzzed about amp-makers around. The company’s latest offering—the limited-edition Virgil—is a 30-watt, two-channel, 6V6-powered amp based on the Hiwatt-meets-Marshall BW119 that 3 Monkeys designed for Whitford in 2006. It’s also an amp that’s turned up in the rigs of such tone zealots as Steely Dan’s Walter Becker (who rocks a sweet surf-green model).
This is the RARE Lawsuit 3 Monkeys Virgil Amp #6 of 25. This amp resulted in a lawsuit by Virgin due to the logo similarities, and ultimately ended the 3 Monkeys amp company. 25 that's all there is and that's all there will ever be which makes these one of the rarest amps on the planet. The gain/boost stage (foot switchable) is wonderful and the cleans are like a Fender black face Super / Showman. The Lead channel is tremendously responsive and goes to the moon. Virgil puts out 30-35 watts powered by 4x 6V6 tubes. It has a "USA / UK" voice toggle switch which takes it from Fender-ish to HiWatt / Marshall and beyond. It has never had any work done to it. It is 100% original and has the original tubes and no work has been performed on this amp. It comes with a Fender footswitch.

Virgil is a two-channel amp with a shared EQ section. The footswitchable variable Boost knob allows the player to go from fat cleans (Boost off) to searing leads (Boost on). The overall Boost volume is governed via the Boost Level knob, allowing the two channel levels to be evened out before the Master volume. A UK/USA switch provides a shift in the EQ of the amp for either the scooped type midrange of 60s California or the more pronounced mid-range of British amps.
