Basically an R1 with an active preamp which adds clarity with its impedance matching and no need for a high gain preamp.

A good design and essentially a Apex 210B with a slight case modification for cabling and a head basket baffle, the GA R1 are a great budget microphone but are not very articulate and are really in need of a high quality transformer and basket modifications for better performance.

Golden Age R1 MKIII Active version Modification Service:
First we remove the low quality cabling and install Mogami/Nuetrik connector/cabling for better audio quality (6ft) . Don't discount the quality of a good cable.

Next we remove a number of components in the Head basket to provide better response from the ribbon element. The design has a number of filters in the basket that cause ringing and muffle the detail from the source whatever instrument it may be.

Stock these manufacturing decisions result in poor audio quality and while there are some improvement's to this design, it still leaves the source sounding distant. It’s like removing a blanket from the audio signal with these changes.

Then, Dampening is applied around the Motor and Tasty, warm Cinemag Transformer is installed for a warmer, smoother and broader response at the mic output. The result is excellent, rivaling designs that cost 2-3 times as much.

Finally we perform modifications to the preamp section for lower noise, better clarity and more detail.
