The Case...

This guitar comes in an era-correct Gibson "Lifton" reissue style case. The handle has been replaced and there are a few tolex tears and staining to the inside of the case, but it still works well enough for an original case that was used.

The Guitar! Medium-to-50s C Neck | 9lbs 15oz

The Standard 82 was a short-lived Kalamazoo model that was rumored to "show the Nashville guys how to do a more accurate reissue" compared to their Heritage 80 Standard/Elite Series. This is NOT just your regular Les Paul Standard from 1982... it is the STANDARD 82. These have 1 piece mahogany necks, rosewood fretboard - exceptionally fantastic figured tops, Kluson style tuners and a more accurate cutaway shape. The biggest difference is an ABR-1 bridge mounted historically which was uncommon on a les paul from 1976-1982. These were one of the final models before Gibson struck gold with the "Les Paul Reissue" line up in 1983. The Standard 82 is an important piece of Gibson "Reissue" History.

This Standard 82 is offered in the less-commonly seen Heritage Cherry Sunburst. It has a proud border with a quilt top to be amazed by! This just underwent a deep clean and polish on March 9, 2025 with 10 gauge strings installed. It has that great "wet" look to it now!

Condition wise, I'd call this a 7/10 on a harsh scale

The top has many dings by the knobs and under the tailpiece. Two of them have some minor touch up that I didn't even notice until a blacklight evaluation. The frets have some flattening wear through about the 10th fret - nothing that I noticed needing immediately addressed, but good to know about. The headstock has its fair share of string change scratches - more than usual.

The back of the guitar has buckle worming marks and dings. You'll mainly see that when viewing it in the light. The edges also have some dings and scratches too. The back of the neck has a few shallow marks, but nothing too notable. The back of the headstock has some deep scratches by the top of the headstock that looks like they were caused by hanging up by a wire (some stores do this for photo shoots.) Even though it looks like a chip off the heastock that was reglued, blacklight test does not support that theory.

You might notice what look like "cracks/repairs" on the neck. These are mineral streaks in the wood. There is a really cool one on the side of the neck that you see while playing!

Non-original parts: Potentially Switch tip, Nut might've been played with, solder joints on the pickup leads. There is a humorous note on the shielding tin from a previous owner telling a story of how he tried some Seymour Duncan pickups in it at one point only to instantly regret it. His note warns you to not mess with these awesome TIM SHAW PAFs.

Besides the finish and figuring - my favorite part about this guitar is its neck profile. It gets nice and chunky towards the upper frets and has a roundedness that you don't see too often from this era. Standard 82s are a great rare model - I've enjoyed owning this one for the past 3 years. I'm considering selling because I already have a different wide-cherry sunburst quilt top in my collection and don't really need two Standard 82s. Perhaps a Standard 83 would make more sense for me...
