The Safari Galaxies are the latest Galaxies I’ve been making. Up until 2015, most DiPinto guitars were made in the now defunct Unsung factory in Korea. We have since found a great, little factory in China that does small runs for us. They use the original CAD drawings to cut the parts on a CNC machine so the guitars are very similar. But unlike the Korean guitars, much of the finish work is now done here in Philadelphia including all wiring, fret level and dress, setup work and any customizations. So I am more hands-on with the Safari line. For this reason these are some of the best Galaxies to date. Catch Los Straitjackets out on tour with their new copper sparkle Galaxies. They sound fabulous!

This particular one was delivered to me from the factory with an ash body that had no finish on it. I did a hand-rubbed Tru Oil finish. The “thin skin” look is great and shows off the open grain in the ash. Ash is dense, hard wood so it sounds fabulous but it’s heavy. I chambered the body from the back and made covers. The guitar now weighs 8lbs.

The pickups are handmade Beaver pickups by Dan Beaver which are underwound PAF’s style coils (6.5k and 5.8k). They sound amazing! The tortoise guard is cut from a sheet of handmade “smoke swirl” plastic. The mirrored plates are handmade from Mylar and are hand-buffed on the edges to achieve that beautiful shine. As with all Galaxies the electronics are handwired here in Philadelphia. The controls are:
