Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a very unique mic that rarely ever pops up. It's a very early 2nd generation 1950's era general purpose microphone made by Electro Voice but sold under license via Stromberg Carlson as the MD-37AS model designed to be used for a variety of situations but primarily for communication and general broadcasting. This 630 variant has the polished chrome housing and works just as well as it looks. It comes with the period original desk stand shown as well as the cable in which to operate.

The mic is set at High Z and has a very "rockabilly" tone being void of bass. It's omni-directional as well picking up a bit more background noise so it's good for using with a guitar while singing.

Pic # 2 shows this very model of 630 sold by E.V in an old catalog I have.

The 630 model mic was sold under a few different brand names during that time. Philco, DuKane and Stromberg Carlson being a few examples. It was common for E.V and Shure to allow other manufacturers to sell their microphones. You don't see too much of that today but back then it was standard practice.

The mic housing / head is reminiscent of the jet engines being used by several American and Soviet fight planes of the day.

The 70 + year old microphone has extremely lite wear as you can see in pictures with just a few lite scratches but it's free of any dents, pitting or fractures. The chrome has a beautiful luster still. The threads for the cable and stand are perfect with zero stripping. The Stromberg Carlson label shows no wear and completely legible.

The joint mechanism works fine with plenty of tension. The on / off switch works great as well. One of the nicest examples of this model I have ever come across. Overall this piece is an very easy 8 + on a scale of 1 - 10.

The mic comes with the short 8 foot cable which is soft, pliable and in excellent condition. It has the standard male 1/4 inch end connector for use with most audio equipment and all guitar amplifiers.

Even if you choose not to use this mic on the daily it will still make a very nice display piece anywhere it sits in the home, office or studio.

MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF THIS SALE...

The mic comes with a very rare original Stromberg Carlson desk stand. This is a cast iron stand with adjustable chrome stems / risers. This model was based on the more common Atlas DS-7 model stand of the day. Just like S.C got a license to sell the mic with their name S.C did the same with Atlas.

I have only ever seen 4 of these stands in the last 14 years of selling mics. They are that rare and yes, the stand is incredibly nice. It really compliments the mic and makes this combo package that more interesting. The last stand I had I sold on it's own for $130.00.

This particular stand has extremely lite wear as you can see. Some lite scuff marks on the chrome risers. The original S.C decal is still on the lower riser and looks fantastic. Just very lite discoloration on the painted grey cast iron base. There are no dents or fractures on this stand but there are 3 new felt pads on the bottom of the base.

 Mic stand is a true 8 + on a scale of 1 - 10.

You've got everything you need to go live.
