The EarthQuaker Devices "Gary" is a dynamic collaboration with Lee Kiernan of the band IDLES, blending a pulse-width modulated fuzz with a natural-sounding op-amp overdrive. Born from Lee's desire for a compact version of the Gray Channel, Gary offers a unique sonic exploration of smooth to savage tones. The right side features a highly interactive fuzz, capable of transforming your signal into a square wave with envelope control for nuanced, ripping fuzz textures. Meanwhile, the left side delivers the full-bodied, cutting op-amp distortion of the original Gray Channel’s green channel, perfect for clean boosts or rich, natural overdrive. Gary’s fuzz feeds into the overdrive, maintaining tonal integrity with each signal chain, and its extreme versatility can be further unlocked with an expression pedal.
