Headway's Cherrywood Guitars Celebrate 10th Anniversary

Our cherry wood guitars began with a single ukulele made in 2014. With years of guitar-making knowledge and skill, Headway has continued to work with this wood, which is different in quality and sound from traditional imported woods. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the company, and a special model has been completed with the hope that it will take a further leap forward and spread its wings to the world.

This year's Sakura Guitar Autumn Model, which marks the 10th autumn, was created with the motif of seasonal cherry blossoms, which are at their best in autumn. The body back depicts a crane celebrating the start of the 10th anniversary descending from the evening colored sky. The coloring is a diagonal gradation, “Slant Gradation,” which incorporates the expression of the mountains woven with autumn leaves and Shiki Cherry Blossoms.

The side backs are made of yamazakura (mountain cherry). It is very hard and has a peak in the low midrange, but also produces a sweet tone characteristic of cherry wood. Maple is inserted in the center of the body back, which adds a crisp and clear tone characteristic of maple to the sound.

The Shikizakura cherry blossoms, which bloom while overlapping with the season of autumn leaves, create a vivid landscape of contrasting red and pink during the peak season. The head features a crane hidden among the autumn leaves, playfully expressing the concept of this model.

On the fingerboard, too, the coexistence of colorful autumn leaves and blossoming cherry blossoms adds to the glamorous appearance and makes the Four Seasons Cherry Blossom Model stand out in its own unique way.

The pickguard, shaped like a cherry blossom petal, is decorated with a design resembling autumn leaves and inlays of blossoming cherry blossoms. The soundhole cover is decorated with a large design of autumn leaves, while the cherry blossoms in full bloom in the background evoke the scene of the Four Seasons Cherry Blossoms, making it a model worthy of the name “Shiki Sakura” (cherry blossoms in four seasons).

Extra Slim U Neck,” the thinnest in Headway's history, incorporating the latest construction of the ATB series

The “Extra Slim U Neck” is the thinnest neck in the ATB series, and while it is designed with the stability of a Headway neck in mind, it is also made even stiffer with the addition of carbon bars in the “high-strength neck” design. The carbon bar not only provides stability, but also suppresses unnecessary neck flexing, allowing string vibrations to be transmitted smoothly to the top of the body, thereby improving the expressive power of the upper register.

34 Semi-Forward-Shifted Bracing

Headway master builder Yasuo Momose studied the bracing of vintage 1934 guitars and developed his own bracing, which is semi-forward shifted with the X cross position close to the soundhole, making it more responsive and voluminous in the bass than when new. The design also takes into account the stability of the top board by making it 5mm closer to the bridge than the forward shift.
