For your consideration, a Gibson, Custom Shop, Les Paul, R8, Lemon/ Honey-Burst FiguredTop, Left-Handed Guitar, from the Historic collection, built in 1998. This 27year old vintage guitar weighs 8lbs, 6.2ozs. The R8’s fat neck is 1 ¾” at the nut, and 2 1/2” at the 22nd fret. Body and neck are constructed of Mahogany wood. The body top comprises, matched bookends, Figured, Maple wood. The FiguredTop is beyond beautiful! Non-volute neck. The fret board is Rosewood and the jumbo steel frets exhibit very little ware. The Stop-Tail piece, ABR Bridge and 2-Humbucker Pickups show signs of mild oxidation (see photos), but all operate as designed. Both tone knobs exhibit fracture (see photos), wherein the neck pick-up knob show signs of splitting. There is a small dent on upper-back of body (see photo), light pick marks on the original, pick guard, as well as pick marks adjacent to the cut-out, top body. The marks do not show in the photos, but are visable under direct light. Original “black,” Historic, Custom Art case is included.

This is a unique lefty, LP guitar. As the story goes, this guitar is 1 of 9 R8 FiguredTops that Gibson ran for Ronn David’s Vintage World, Cranston, RI. Originally, the run was suppose to be 8 guitars, but this lefty was added at the last moment. Ronn believed it to be the ‘best of the bunch.’ This guitar predates the Gibson’s Certificate of Authority. Many players and collectors consider 90’s Historic Gibson’s to be of the so called “good wood” era. The colour of this guitar is somewhere between “dirty lemon” and “honey”; you decide?
