The Hagstrom Ultra Max Cosmic has all the characteristics of a best-selling guitar. It combines the characteristics of other top models, such as the Super Swede, which are more than popular with guitarists and clearly stand out from the mainstream. A long scale length of 25.5'/648 mm and the ability to produce convincing single-coil sounds are just two of the many features of the Ultramax: “Best of both guitar worlds”, so to speak. With the Limited Edition, the Swedish manufacturer goes one step further and dresses the special model in a particularly exciting finish called “Vinterny White Metallic” for the top. A new moon in winter, literally translated, radiates a good dose of stage DNA with its glittering white top and opaque black back. The unusual outfit is complemented by a trio of double coils that make pretty much every wish for full-bodied humbucker sounds and crystal-clear single coil sounds come true. And that's not all: both the Lundgren Design 05 bridge and Lundgren Design 02 neck, as well as the H52 humbucker in the middle, are automatically split in positions 2 and 4 via the 5-way switch and deliver great single coil sounds in the intermediate positions. The Mini H52 Humbucker in the middle is a tribute to a sometimes completely misunderstood pickup position. With the tone pot's continuously adjustable bass cut filter, a whole sound universe from brilliant to gnarly is also in the hands of the player.

I bought the guitar in 2020, so it has only been in my display case to look at. The guitar is a limited special edition model of which, as far as I know, only 250 were built. If you take a close look at the guitar and compare it with the Ultra Max Special gold, you will notice that there are big differences, such as the binding, including on the neck and headstock, which looks like mother-of-pearl.

I had the frets reworked by a luthier because Hagstrom's workmanship is not good in this area. The frets scratched my fingers very unpleasantly when playing, which seems to be a general problem with Hagstrom.

Mit der Limited Edition geht der Schwedische Hersteller noch einen Schritt weiter und kleidet das Sondermodell im besonders aufregenden Finish namens „Vinterny White Metallic“ für die Decke aus. Neumond in der Winterzeit, so die wörtliche Übersetzung, strahlt mit einem glitzernden, weißen Top und der deckend Schwarz ausgeführten Rückseite eine gehörige Portion Bühnen-DNA aus. Zum außergewöhnlichen Outfit gesellt sich ein Trio von Doppelspulern, das so ziemlich alle Wünsche nach vollmundigen Humbucker Klängen und glasklaren Single Coil Sounds wahr werden lässt. Und damit nicht genug: Sowohl Steg Lundgren Design 05, sowie Hals Lundgren Design 02, als auch der H52 Humbucker in der Mitte werden über den 5-Wege Schalter automatisch in den Positionen 2 und 4 gesplittet und liefern tolle Single Coil Sounds in den Zwischenpositionen. Ein Tribut an eine mitunter völlig verkannte Tonabnehmer Position ist besagter Mini H52 Humbucker in der Mitte. Mit dem stufenlos regelbaren Bass-Cut Filter des Tone Potis, liegt hier zusätzlich ein ganzes Klanguniversum von fulminant bis knorrig in den Händen des Spielers.

Außergewöhnliches Aussehen trifft auf hervorragendes Spielgefühl und eine Galaxie an bühnentauglichen Sounds, von Crispy-Clean bis beinhart. Ideal für die heutige X-Over Generation, die ein bezahlbares, schickes, Pro-Player Instrument mit flexiblen Sounds bevorzugt.

Ich habe die Gitarre in 2020 gekauft, dann stand sie bei mir bisher nur in der Vitrine zum anschauen. Die Gitarre ist ein limitiertes Sondermodell von dem, soweit ich weiß, nur 250 Stück gebaut wurden. Wenn man sich die Gitarre ganz genau anschaut und mit der Ultra Max Special gold vergleicht, wird man feststellen, dass es große Unterschiede gibt, wie z.B. das Binding, auch am Hals und an der Kopfplatte, das wie Perlmutt aussieht.

Ich habe die Bünde von einem Gitarrenbauer nacharbeiten lassen, weil die Verarbeitung von Hagstrom an dieser Stelle nicht gut ist. Die Bünde zerkratzten mir beim Spielen sehr unangenehm die Finger, was ein generelles Problem bei Hagstrom zu sein scheint.

Die Gitarre hat unglaubliche Sounds und kann natürlich, aber nur von echten Interessenten, nach Rücksprache angespielt werden.
