Höfner 470 S E2 – Extremly RARE 1968 17‘‘ German Vintage Archtop Thinline Jazz Guitar / Gitarre

This is the model 470 by „Höfner“. Höfner is a german luthier, who produced many kinds of instruments during the golden age of german guitarmaking between the 50s and the 80s. Höfner was known worldwide for their extraordinary quality and their traditional long tradition in making instruments. This was the reason, why many musicians, like Paul McCartney for example, swore on Höfner gutiars and played them through their carrer.

The Höfner 470 was one of the finest models Höfner ever produced. It is not only a fantastic collector's item but also a perfect playing guitar. Crafted with maximum attention to detail, today there are hardly any guitar makers who offer such a luxurious model. With an appropriate price tag, only a few were sold, and consequently, few are in circulation.

Without compromising on materials, only the finest wood from Höfner's own sawmill was used. The top is made of well-aged, solid carved maple wood, and the back and sides are also solid woods: beautiful flamed maple. The neck, including the headstock, is made from eleven longitudinally glued wood strips: flamed maple, mahogany, and rosewood. It couldn't be more elaborate. The fingerboard is made of black ebony and adorned with intricate real mother-of-pearl inlays. The complex bindings made of perloid and spruce wood are also a highlight. On the back, there is a leaf-shaped ornament, which to this day has not been realized in this way on any serial guitar known to me.

The condition is overall incredibly good. The guitar has been well cared for. There are signs of wear on the gold paint, and the pickguard has a longitudinal crack that has been perfectly glued. That's it for the signs of use, as you can see in the photos, it is in very good visual condition. The same applies to the electronics. The neck is perfectly straight, and the string action is low, making the guitar very comfortable to play. The guitar was taken to a luthier who set it up perfectly for playing.
