The Shop’s Take (TL;DR)
Here is a vintage 1960s Zim-Gar 5x14 snare drum in Orange Sparkle, made in Japan and in Good vintage condition. Zim-Gar was one of the Japanese import brands that helped put affordable, playable drum kits into the hands of a generation of musicians during the 1960s. This example retains what appears to be its original hardware, including a fully functional strainer, and the Orange Sparkle wrap still presents remarkably well. It is not a high-end American collector snare, nor are we trying to present it as one. What it is is a charming, functional piece of the 1960s Japanese drum boom with plenty of vintage character.

Full Description
Zim-Gar was one of a number of brand names used on Japanese-made drums imported into the United States during the 1960s.
These instruments are often grouped today under the broad category of “MIJ stencil drums,” but that description can undersell their place in drum history. For many young players during the British Invasion era, Japanese import kits were an affordable alternative to considerably more expensive American drums.
This example is a 5x14 snare finished in Orange Sparkle. The wrap remains one of the strongest features of the drum, with plenty of color and sparkle still visible despite more than half a century of age.
The hardware appears to be original throughout, including the strainer, which remains fully functional.
As with many Japanese drums from this period, exact factory and shell-construction details can be difficult to establish with certainty. We are therefore describing this conservatively as a vintage Japanese wood-shell snare rather than assigning a specific wood species without documentation.
The drum is fully functional and ready to play. For someone building a vintage MIJ collection, completing a period Japanese kit, or simply looking for an affordable vintage snare with plenty of personality, this is a fun and honest example.

Condition
Good vintage condition.
The drum shows cosmetic wear consistent with age and use, while remaining fully functional.
The Orange Sparkle wrap presents very well overall.
The hardware shows normal age-related wear but remains intact and functional.
The strainer operates properly.
Please review all photographs carefully, as they show the actual drum being offered and are an important part of the condition description.
