Time has finally caught up with the amazingly flexible, “semi-modular” (aka semi-open architecture) synth of the 70s--The sweet spot between contemporary easy-to-operate preset-loaded “closed architecture” synths of today and the limitless sound design potential of the bulky and complicated fully modular “open architecture” synths the 60s.
Of them all, the legendary ARP 2600 is the most notable and highly desired synth of its times. It can be heard of countless recordings, including classics by the Who, Herbie Hancock, Edgar Winter, and Jean-Michel Jarre (who called the 2600 “the Stradivarius of synths.”)
Faithfully and painstakingly recreated, the vintage classic ARP 2600 lives again inside the Behringer 2600. Since 2020, Synth enthusiasts have finally been given authentic and affordable access to vintage-style Analog semi-modular freedom. Never satisfied with just a home run, Behringer has taken it further by reviving the ultra-rare “GREY MEANNIE” version of the immortal 2600.
Not just a Gray 2600, the Gray Meanie also differs from the standard 2600 with uniformly colored LED indicators, but changes don’t end on the cosmetic level. The Gray Meanie is loaded with selected Opp amps, transistors, and circuitry found only on one of the original 35 Gray-panel versions of the vaunted classic. Plus, the Gray Meanie version is upgraded with an authentic mechanical spring reverb tank!
Behringer’s true-to-vintage spec 2600 synths authentically recreate the ARP’s 3 VCO, 4 wavefor
