E-mu Proteus 1 XR 9011 90’s single rack, 16 bit, polyphonic, sound module. Made in USA.

We took in this and a Proteus 2 just recently from a busy studio. If you’re interested in the pair, please let us know and we’ll figure out a bundle deal.

This is a very straight forward, single rack sound module and in the late 80’s/early 90’s it was truly one of the best. This “XR” version doubled the original 4Mb of RAM giving you a total of 384 patches. The Proteus featured 16-part MIDI multitimbrality, 32-voice polyphony, 16-bit samples, six individual polyphonic outputs and a whole range of editing and modulation capabilities.

We love the 80’s sounds out of this and the usability of some of the string and brass patches. There’s so much of 80’s production coming back into mainstream music that to be able to get your hands on some original equipment that doesn’t break the bank is pretty cool.

This one has the usual studio gunk for such an old piece, but it works just exactly as it should with no further issues other than cosmetic.
