Hi all. I`m selling here my luthier made all solid carved tonewoods Archtop guitar with a set-in Benedetto A6 humbucking pickup.
It is rather unique in that it has a short scale of 24 " at my request from the builder. I didn`t want to go for the Byrdland 23 1/2 inch scale as I found that rather cramped in the higher register. I did want the shorter scale however for ease of playing...especially those difficult to finger jazz chords as I have rather short fingers.
I also chose to have a 15 inch lower bout and 2 3/4 inch rims in order to have a guitar that is very comfortable, lightweight and easy to play. My local luthier who did a full fret dress and set-up, said " it plays itself". This being noted luthier and guitar builder John LeVoi. It really is a joy in it`s ease of playing !
The back and sides are made from solid carved AAA flamed Maple and the top is of solid hand carved Spruce.
The guitar body is parallel braced and the neck has a 43mm nut width.
The fretboard, bridge, tailpiece and finger rest are all made of ebony as are the tuner buttons.
The body binding is 7 ply and the head, neck and soundholes are 3 ply solid woods.
The thickness at the first fret is approx 22 mm and at the 12th fret approx 24 mm. Not a skinny neck nor too bulky with enough mass to help in promoting a good tone.
This guitar is largely based on the Eastman John Pisano model AR680 which retails new for approx £2,500. My guitar is the equal of it in build in every way and has more fancy woods to boot....please see fotos enlarged. plent of flame on the back, sides and even the neck ! it`s a real beauty.
I`m asking an extremely reasonable price of £975.00 and will entertain sensible offers....especially if bought via Reverb or Gumtree who don`t charge exorbitant sales commisions. I will leave my contact number on those sites. ebay don`t allow that.
There are a few minor signs of use on the guitar but nothing that stands out. There is a sign of a minor scrape near the tailpiece to the upper right of it and a small indentation on the upper right bout which is hard to see on the fotos. It has not broken the lacquer.
The guitar plays perfectly and has no structural issues of any kind.
The guitar was built by Mr Wu of china who has built up a reputation as being a top class archtop guitar builder. He originally worked for Eastman guitars and Yunzhi as one of their top luthiers before he branched out on his own.
He runs his own small firm now called Hotman guitars and sells through his agent partner under the name of Yolanda Team as his partner does all of the translating and dealing with customers in English. They make a very effective and reliable set-up if you ever want your own guitar built to a top luthier quality and your own specs.
His guitars stand comparison with the best of them considering that Eastmans are no longer cheap guitars if you want the all carved solid wood models.
The guitar cost me approx £1,500 together with import taxes, Benedetto pick-up & fret dress and set-up when the pound was high against the dollar. You simply cant buy a guitar of this spec for this price without going to China.
I`m asking £ 975 for it and as mentioned, will entertain sensible offers .
I have it advertised in several sites and reserve the right to sell it without further notice as that would not be practicable.
I can be contacted on 07733 848263 uk mob.
Postage to UK mainland...not N.I and Highlands & Islands at £25.
Other areas and Europe, please ask for postage costs. thanks.
If you`re looking for a real quality archtop at more than a reasonable price, they don`t come up very often at this unique spec. All Solid carved tonewoods ...Spruce, Maple and Ebony of course. As Archtops go, this is a real bargain. you are welcome to come and try it first ! Happy to answer all questions .
