1934 Martin 000-28 Shade Top Sunburst Acoustic Guitar Pre-War w/ Video #47759

WORKING CONDITION: Good - The guitar plays very nicely and feels wonderful in your hands. The action is ok in the first position, but as you get higher on the neck it gets a little high, suggesting that a neck reset is needed. Anyone who has played the guitar agrees that it sounds heavenly. The guitar resonates deeply and sounds very alive, what a sweet old soul!  

PHYSICAL CONDITION: Good -  The guitar is something to behold in person and has a peppering of age and wear that one would expect from an 88-year-old instrument. The top has pretty minimal wear considering its age and gives a great first impression, the back and some side portions have numerous scratches, dings, and surface wear, but nothing that cannot be seen in the photos. The integrity and structure of the guitar, along with the binding and mechanical aspects of the guitar are "solid" with no issues to mention. 

Aside from the nicks and abrasions, the lower bout has a split in the wood that occurred not long ago from the dry conditions of California. The split was repaired 4 months ago by Norik Renson here in North Hollywood where some cleats were seated underneath the crack to prevent it from splitting further or changing.  About a 2" portion of the binding was replaced where the crack meets the binding. We just picked up the guitar from Norik where it was checked out again and it remains stable. 

The vintage Grover tuners are not original to this guitar and the screw holes for the original tuners have been filled in and the back of the headstock has been lacquered.  

The bridge itself is stable and the top is flat.  

After having the photos of the guitar reviewed by numerous Martin enthusiasts and luthiers online, it has been conveyed to us with various levels of certainty that the following things are not original to this model:

• Tuners. Although the Grover tuners on this guitar are vintage and suit this guitar very nicely, they are not original. 
• Bridge. The bridge is not original to this guitar but the underlying bridge plate is original.
• Finish. Although the shade top burst on this guitar is very nicely done and looks beautiful, it has been strongly suggested that it is not original. 
• Pickguard- The pickguard is not original to this model. 
• It has been suggested the frets are not original but this has not been confirmed by any in-person inspection.

The current owner of the guitar had it gifted to him by a beloved family member back in 2013. The guitar was in the family for as far back as he could remember and does not know any history of the guitar before that. The only work done to the guitar that he is aware of and while in his keep since 2013 was done by Norik Renson to repair the crack in the top recently. 

While this very rare instrument has gone through various changes over the years it remains a very viable player and collector instrument that is priced well below market value so that someone can add this dream Martin to their collection.
